Building and Using a Quantitative Systems Pharmacology Model: Overview and Case Study

Mike Reed, Chief Scientist, PhysioPD, Rosa & Co

Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) models are increasingly being adopted in the pharmaceutical industry to reduce the very expensive risks associated with drug development. QSP provides the ability to generate and test hypotheses about complex biological systems and drug effects to better understand the causes of inter-patient variability. This approach allows more informed decisions to be made and focuses future experimental and trial designs. Over the last twelve years, Rosa has developed QSP models known as PhysioPD™ Research Platforms to support these objectives for many major pharmaceutical companies, in multiple disease indications and across all stages of the drug discovery and development pipeline. In this webinar, I will provide an overview of the strategy and process for developing and using a PhysioPD Research Platform. The overview will outline the process from the initial conception of the Platform scope and capabilities to the systematic evaluation of biological uncertainty and variability (drug- and disease-related). Finally, I will address the use of and calibration to diverse data sources, and the application of simulation research to address program objectives.
